History of The Fair Labor Standards Act

The Federal Fair Labor Standards Act had its beginnings in 1938 as part of the New Deal legislative program. Its purpose was to address working conditions and wages and to establish a standard, especially for those employees who were unprotected, unorganized, and the lowest paid. This purpose continues as the FLSA sets the minimum wage and the standards for overtime pay, maximum hours, and child employment. It also provides employees with a judicial remedy via the federal courts to address legal issues against employers in Houston, Dallas, Austin or anywhere in Texas.
